Recent Finance News 

Interest rates:

On December 4, 2016, the Fed increased the target range for the federal funds rate to .5% to .75%. This increase was based on the solid job gains during the past months and the declining unemployment rate. Household spending has increased, and inflation has been rising but haven’t reached the target of 2%.

Economists believe that the Federal Reserve will wait six months before raising the interest rates again. The wait on tightening monetary policy is based on the President-elect’s promised economic package.

December 20th, 2PM EST, Deloitte Webinar: “New Section 987 regulations: What could they mean for your company?”: 

On December 7, the US Treasury Department and the IRS published final and temporary regulations under IRC Section 987 regarding the treatment of transactions within qualified business units (QBUs) of select taxpayers. These regulations will have an impact on many taxpayers given the proliferation of check-the-box structures.  We’ll discuss:

  • An overview of the final and temporary regulations and their effective dates.
  • Impact of the temporary regulations on built-in Section 987 losses of existing QBUs and insights into elections potentially available to affected taxpayers.
  • Practical consequences of complying with these regulations.
  • Possible financial statement impacts pursuant to ASC740.
