Feb. 23: “Towards a Global Market for Natural Gas” – SAIS alumnus Nikos Tsafos and a senior commentator will address three core questions: 1) What does it mean to create a global market for natural gas? 2) What conditions will bring this about? 3)What is the timeline to get a global gas market? Monday, 4:30 PM. Rome Auditorium. Members of the public and media should RSVP to ERE program at SAISEREGLOBAL@jhu.edu.

Feb. 26: “Consumption Basket and Currency Choice in International Borrowing– Ha Nguyen, Economist in the Macroeconomics and Growth Team of the Development Research Group at the World will discuss this topic. Thursday, 4:30 PM. BOB 714. Open to the SAIS Community.


Feb. 23: “Understanding the Role of Collateral in Financial Markets” – The Economic Studies Program at Brookings will host an event featuring Manmohan Singh of the International Monetary Fund. Mr. Singh will discuss his new book, Collateral and Financial Plumbing (Risk Publications), and a panel of experts will respond to his conclusions. Douglas J. Elliott of Brookings will moderate the event. All speakers will take audience questions and discounted copies of Mr. Singh’s book will be available for purchase at the event. Feb.25: “European Financial Regulation and Transatlantic Collaboration” – Economic Studies at Brookings will host an event featuring Lord Hill, the new European commissioner for financial stability, financial services and capital markets union.  This will be part of his first visit to the U.S. on behalf of the European Commission, and he will give insights into the values that will guide his term of office, outline his approach to the regulation of the financial sector (including the EU’s capital markets union project), and set out priorities for cooperation between the EU and U.S. in this area.  After his remarks, Lord Hill will participate in a moderated discussion with Douglas J. Elliott of Brookings.  He will take questions from the audience at the close of the event. For more information click here.
