Feb. 17: “The Changing Landscape of Global Trade: A Canadian Perspective” Simon Kennedy, Deputy Minister of Health will discuss this topic. Tuesday, 12PM. Rome 806. Open to the SAIS Community.

Feb. 18: “Personal Finance 101 with Professors Bodnar and WhiteGordon Bodnar, Morris W. Offit professor of International Finance, and Mark White, associate practitioner-in-residence in the International Economics Program, will discuss topics related to personal financial planning, including budgeting, saving, insuring, and investing. Wednesday, 12:30 PM. Nitze 417. Members of the SAIS Community should RSVP to ERE program at asupran1@jhu.edu.


Feb. 12: “MENA Chief Economist Seminar Series: “Sovereign Wealth Funds, Domestic Feb. 18: “EE Noon-Finance with Dong Kim, DOE, and Jeff Eckel, Hannon Armstrong” –the Alliance to Save Energy will be hosting a lunch discussion on innovative energy efficiency financing mechanisms. Participants will hear from Dong Kim, Chief Operating Officer of the Loan Programs Office at the Department of Energy, and Jeff Eckel, President & CEO of Hannon Armstrong Sustainable Infrastructure. EE noon is series of brown bag lunches designed to share best practices and information, EE Noon seminars feature short presentations by energy efficiency leaders, followed by questions from the diverse audience of government, business and NGO participants. Feb. 19: “Public Private Partnership Symposium: Partnering with State and Local Governments to Revitalize Critical Infrastructure– This session will evaluate opportunities for the public and private sector to more closely collaborate to invest in upgrading critical infrastructure, including requirements for authorizing local-level legislation and key resources required to managing these partnerships. There will be a diverse group of speakers ranging from the academic world, private sector as well as public sector. Feb. 21: “The Monopolists: Obsession, Fury, and the Scandal Behind the World’s Favorite Board Game – As a New York Times sports reporter as well as an experienced Wall Street Journal writer on economics and finance, Pilon is admirably suited to tell the story of Monopoly. Make that stories. Legend has it that the board game was invented by an unemployed man who made his fortune by selling it to Parker Brothers. In fact, Monopoly came from the decidedly anti-capitalist Landlord’s Game, the creation of Elizabeth Magie (1866 – 1948). Pilon will be in conversation with Stefan Fatsis, author of Word Freak and tournament Scrabble contestant. For more information click here.
