SAIS International Finance Club Weekly Newsletter – April 28, 2014
Last Friday, SAIS International Finance Club hosted ‘Capital Markets 101’ featuring Neil Shenai. Students participated in a market-making game designed to simulate daily communications on the trading floor. We had a great turnout and are planning to host another one next semester. Thank you to those who came, and especially to Tianyi Tang and Jingwen Lu who did a great job organizing this successful event.
Finally, for those who have not found an internship/full-time job yet, don’t worry – we will keep sending recruitment posts and help however we can. Enjoy the last week of classes!

UPCOMING OFF-CAMPUS EVENTS
April 29: “Insurance Regulatory Modernization: A Discussion Home and Abroad” – What role should the federal government play in regulating the country’s insurance industry? Should insurance be left to the states to oversee, or is a streamlined federal regulatory body necessary for proper industry oversight in today’s globalized economy? And what are the international implications of this debate? Join National Journal for a policy summit to convene the nation’s key opinion leaders for a robust discussion on insurance regulatory modernization, both home and abroad, in the 21st century. Tuesday 8:00 am – 10:30 am. National Journal. For more information click here
April 30: “Atlantic Council Captains of Industry Series: Thomas Enders, CEO, Airbus Group” – From the helm of a global company with roots in both defense and commercial aerospace, Airbus Group CEO Thomas Enders will argue that the transatlantic partnership must recalibrate to remain both relevant and resolute: not just across the ocean, but across the often bigger divide between politics, military, and industry. An industrialist to the core, he will discuss what the supply chain for such a revamped partnership could look like. Along the way, he will explore the role of governments, the responsibility of industry, and the reluctance of young talent to tackle such key issues going forward. Wednesday 2:00 pm. Atlantic Council. For more information click here
May 1: “NEC w/Frank Nothaft, Freddie Mac” – The housing market appeared to have stalled over the winter after a two-year pickup in home sales, housing starts, and house prices. Has the market picked up this spring? What is the outlook for the coming year, in the light of further upticks in mortgage rates and house prices? Thursday 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm. The National Economists Club. For more information click here
