Professor Monica Brand is the Principal Director at ACCION’s Frontier Investments Group, an Adjunct Professor at SAIS, and serves on numerous boards including her role as chair of the investment representative committee of Leap Frog – the first ever microinsurance fund. Her lecture will explore how investment in social enterprise can catalyze breakthrough innovation to serve the poor and generate a positive social and/or environmental impact as well as a financial return. Specifically, the tutorial will help students understand why early stage equity investing is used as a framework for promoting sustainable innovation and how impact investing builds off and differs from traditional venture capital/private equity.
